Allergen testing offers an additional level of assurance to both
catteries and pet owners. Allergen levels should not be the
first quality for selection of breeding Siberians, but this unique
characteristic should be maintained in the breed.
Please Do Not Test Kittens. Feline allergens increase
with age, so testing kittens is not accurate or effective.
Breeding cats should be a minimum of nine months of age before testing
allergen levels. Our studies show that low allergen parents have a
good tendency of produce low-allergen kittens.
SRI has developed excellent methods for testing with fur or saliva.
We have also agreed to a shared research project with Dr. Lyons in an
effort to study hypoallergenic Siberians and look for the genes involved.
Detailed testing instructions and assistance are offered free to SRI
members. Access to testing information and forms.

submit DNA to UC Davis for ongoing research into Siberian Fel d1.
We offer the following information as a courtesy to catteries
who wish to test their cats for allergen levels, but do not wish to
become SRI members. Please note: SRI provides testing methods
and support to member catteries only.
Forms for independent testing are available from Indoor Biotechnologies at:
